These strange herbivores, nearly 15 feet long and one thousand pounds, roamed North America from 70 to 65 million years ago. They fed on soft leaves, seeds, and fruit, slicing them up with their (surprisingly) small leaf-shaped serrated teeth. Their most striking feature being the large dome on their skull, up to 9 inches thick! The exact purpose of this dome has been debated for decades. The most well know theory is that the animals used their domes in "headbutting contests" similar to modern bighorn sheep. The domes were very ornate, being surrounded by boney knobs and spikes like this specimen! The spike measures 2.52 x 1.22 x 1.14 inches (6.4 x 3.1 x 2.9 cm) with zero repair or restoration! The most striking feature is the mottled texture and a deep groove indicating the piece was bitten, swallowed, and digested by a carnivorous dinosaur! The bite mark's width matches a medium size theropod tooth, pictures provided show a large Nanotyrannus tooth fitting nicely in the notch! Other likely candidates are the giant Dromaeosaur Dakotaraptor, and even a juvenile T-Rex! Pachycephalosaurus fossils are already extremely rare, so to find a specimen that shows the interaction between it and other dinosaurs is really something special! A fantastic and unique piece from a bizarre, iconic, and surprisingly rare dinosaur worthy of any fossil collection! The piece measures just over 20.5 inches (52.07 cm) long and 4.5135 x 3.9555 inches (11.46 x 10.05 cm) with fantastic preservation of the blood grooves! This is a truly museum quality piece worthy of display in any fossil collection!

Ceratopsians, also known as “Horned Dinosaurs”, are plant eating dinosaurs that had boney frills on the back of their heads, parrot like beaks, and often (but not always) horns. The most famous of which is the Three Horned Triceratops. Triceratops was one of the most prolific dinosaurs of Late Cretaceous North America. These massive herbivores, nearly 30 feet long and ten tons, and roamed in large herds 66 million years ago. Its most striking features were the large frill and three large horns, one on its snout and two on its brow, that adorned its head. The brow horns could reach up to four feet in length and the frill three feet across! While Triceratops was a sight to behold on its own evidence suggests that it had a contemporary, another Three Horned Ceratopsian that was even bigger called Torosaurus! Torosaurus is a rather unusual genus of dinosaur. Fossils are very rare and indicate it would have been very similar to Triceratops, but bigger and with large holes in its frill whose purpose is unknown. Many paleontologists believe that Torosaurus are simply very large mature Triceratops and that they develop the holes in their frill as they age, while many others argue that Torosaurus represents a different genus.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TRICERATOPS: Traditionally any large Ceratopsian remains from the Hell Creek are simply labeled "Triceratops". This is due to the debate around Torosaurus, it's validity as a different species, and that even as a legitimate species it is SUBSTANTIALLY rarer than Triceratops to the point that the overwhelming majority of such material would be identified as Triceratops if possible. However, because of the chance that Torosaurus is a valid species and the inability to tell apart isolated teeth/bones between these two I will be labeling these fossils as "Ceratopsian, Triceratops or Torosaurus" (or just Triceratops type because the two were so similar) to cover all bases.

All of my items come with a Certificate of Authenticity!

Thank you for reading please contact me with any questions.

Have a wonderful day!

Species: Ceratopsian: Triceratops or Torosaurus

Size: just over 20.5 inches (52.07 cm) long and 4.5135 x 3.9555 inches (11.46 x 10.05 cm)

Found: near Lusk, Wyoming in Niobrara County, Wyoming, USA

Formation: Hell Creek Formation

Age: 68-66 million years old

Repair: None

This is a Top Quality Gill Plate from a Giant Fresh Water Coelacanth from the Cretaceous Kem Kem Beds of Morocco! Unlike other carnivorous dinosaurs, T-rex was extraordinarily bulky and muscular. Although there were some carnivorous dinosaurs who exceeded T-rex in length, comparing them to T-Rex is like comparing a NBA player to a bodybuilder on steroids! This was reflected in its teeth which are much thicker than other carnivorous dinosaur teeth to withstand its gargantuan bite force, bearing more of a resemblance to serrated spikes than serrated knives. The juveniles were more svelte than the adults, built more for speed than power. It has even been suggested that they would engage in cooperative hunting, the youngsters would use their speed to push potential prey towards the massive jaws of the adults. While the feather is more primitive in comparison to modern feathers, as one would expect from a dinosaur feather, one would also expect that on very early birds that had just split to form their own group, birds. Early birds still had many dinosaur characteristics including tails, teeth, and claws on their wings and there is still a ton of debate as to where to draw the line between true bird and non-bird dinosaur (Pity the poor souls studying human evolution with this problem!). Add to that the difficulties in differentiating the morphology between different species and their feathers when you rarely ever find feathers attached to the actual animals, and this question is more or less impossible to answer one way or another.

So what can you say it is? It is a feather from a very important time in paleontology where birds where fully differentiating themselves from other dinosaurs and you could justifiably call it either. Found alongside its much larger cousin, the infamous T-rex, paleontologist have long debated whether Nanotyrannus is a distinct species or just juvenile T-rexes. It comes in a floating frame with a stand, blown up pictures of the inclusions, and detailed information for easy transport and a beautiful display!

Is it a dinosaur feather? Technically, yes in the same way that all feathers are dinosaur feathers because all birds are a type of dinosaur.

Is it from a dinosaur that ISN'T a bird? This one is a little trickier for a lot of reasons.

Primitive bird or very bird like dinosaur.

Amber is petrified tree resin (not sap, resin is much thicker). It forms when trees secrete resin, and the resin is quickly washed away by water and deposited in a lake where it is covered by sediment (if the resin isn’t washed away it decomposes or gets eaten). Along the way, small particles of dust, bits of plant material, and even small animals like insects and lizards can become trapped in the resin which hardens and preserves whatever is trapped within (aka inclusions). Myanmar amber, also known as Burmite, is world renowned gem quality amber known for excellent inclusions of insects, plants, and even small vertebrates! The preservation in amber can be so good it inspired a major portion of Jurassic Park, where blood sucking insects trapped in amber provided the DNA needed to clone dinosaurs! While the science of cloning dinosaurs from amber is, for better or worse, not a reality the pristine fossils of small animals that are rarely fossilized in any other way is very real!

Any vertebrate remains in amber are among the rarest and most sought after of fossils!
