These are Beautiful Large Connected Fossil Scutes (Boney Armor) from a Glyptodont from the Pliocene to Pleistocene of Florida! The overall piece measures 3.69 Inches! The individual scutes, 2 whole and 2 partial, show fantastic rosette patterns and have no repair or restoration! The whole scutes were found fused to the partial scutes. These two pieces consisting of whole and partial scutes were found separately and then fit back together. These came from the same animal and were connected to each other in life!
Glyptodonts are large, extinct, herbivorous mammals that first appeared 38 million years ago and went extinct at the end of the Ice Age 12 thousand years ago. They had shells covering their body made of interlocking plates forming a strong armor much like their modern cousins, armadillos. Unlike armadillos, they could not roll into a ball. Glyptodonts were also MUCH larger. Some species grew to lengths of over 12 feet long, 6 feet tall, and over two and a half tons!
A great opportunity to own a piece of an iconic Ice Age mammal at a price that won't break the bank!
