This is a BEAUTIFUL Fossil Molar from the American Mastodon (Mammut americanum) from the Pleistocene of Florida! The piece measures 7.2 Inches (18.28 cm) long, 4.72 Inches (11.98 cm) tall, 4 Inches (10.16 cm) thick, and weighs 3.24 pounds with fantastic humps and a partial root! It has a repaired break, but isn't restored in anyway!
The American Mastodon is a close relative of elephants and Mammoths that first appeared 8 million years ago and went extinct at the end of the Ice Age. Although often confused with Mammoths, Mastodons were shorter, stockier, had straighter tusks, and flatter heads. This specimen is the Pleistocene of Florida, 1 million to 12 thousand years old.
