This is a beautiful tooth from the MONSTROUS Sarcosuchus imperator, aka "Supercroc", from the Elrhaz formation of the Cretaceous of Gadoufaoua, Tenere Desert of Niger! The tooth is in fantastic condition with great enamel, a partial root, and ZERO repair or restoration!! The tooth measures 1.37 inches (3.48 cm) and .69 inches (1.75 cm) thick! It comes in a double sided clear display case for easy transport and display!
At over 30 feet long and nearly 5 tons, Supercroc is one of the largest Crocodyliforms to ever live! It lived in what is now Africa 133 to 112 million years ago. It would have resembled modern crocodiles, all be it much bigger, but with a narrow snout with a bulbous end. It would have operated much like modern crocodiles, waiting at the waters edge to ambush prey, grasping them in its ridiculously strong jaws and dragging them to a watery grave! Except while modern crocodiles hunt wildebeest and antelope, Supercroc would have hunted full sized dinosaurs! Including the sail back hadrosaur Ouranosaurus and the long neck Nigersaurus. Imagine a crocodile lunging out of the water to grab a dinosaur!!
Other Fossil crocodile teeth are often mislabeled as Sarcosuchus. Authentic teeth from Sarcosuchus imperator can only be positively identified as such if they are very large, very thick, and from the Elrhaz formation in Niger (NOT MOROCCO!!) making true Supercroc teeth very rare. An excellent addition to any fossil collection from a frightening prehistoric predator!
All of my items come with a Certificate of Authenticity!
