Collection: Woolly Rhino

The Woolly Rhinoceros is a species of rhinoceros that lived throughout Europe and North Asia from 3.6 million to 10,000 years ago. It was covered in a thick layer of course hair that helped protect it from the freezing temperatures of the Ice Age much like the Woolly Mammoth. Adults ranged in size from 10-12.5 feet (3-3.8 meters) in length, about 6.6 feet (2 meters) tall at the shoulder, and 4-6 thousand pounds (1800-2700 kilograms). Much like modern rhinoceroses, the woolly rhino fed on tough vegetation using its large molars. The Woolly Rhino had two horns, the front horn was the largest reaching over 4.5 feet in length! Fossils include isolated teeth and bones to entire frozen specimens and even representation in cave paintings! Impressive additions to any fossil collection!
