This is a GORGEOUS set of 6.5 authentic articulated Mosasaur tail vertebrae from from the late Cretaceous of Morocco! The vertebrae are in fantastic condition connected to each other as they would have been in life with full processes all on the original rock in the original position they were found on! The fossil measures about 8.8 inches (22.35 cm)! The other side of the piece is in a plaster jacket for overall stability!
Mosasaurs are huge carnivorous marine reptiles that lived alongside dinosaurs from 101 to 66 million years ago. Some approached 60 feet (18 meters) in length! They aren't dinosaurs but are close relatives of snakes and lizards. The exact species of Mosasaur these tail vertebrae came from is difficult to say. Although the Mosasaur these bones came from seems to have been on the smaller side (for a Mosasaur), probably measuring about 10 feet in length.
