This is a wonderful tooth from one of the infamous Dome Headed dinosaurs, the Pachycephalosaurs from the equally infamous Hell Creek Formation in Powder River County, Montana, USA! These strange herbivores, which first appeared roughly 120 million years, are found throughout North America and Eurasia. The largest, Pachycephalosaurus, could grow to nearly 15 feet long and one thousand pounds! Although most were about 8 feet long. They fed on soft leaves, seeds, and fruit, slicing them up with their (surprisingly) small leaf-shaped serrated teeth. Their most striking feature being the large dome on their skull, up to 9 inches thick on Pachycephalosaurus! Although not all Pachycephalosaurs had domes and some had flat heads, even their skulls were unusually thick. The exact purpose of this dome has been debated for decades. The most well know theory is that the animals used their domes in "headbutting contests" similar to modern bighorn sheep. The domes were very ornate, being surrounded by boney knobs and spikes! The tooth measures 4.71 mm (.18 inches) with a great tip, a partial root, and zero repair or restoration! It comes in a 1 inch gem jar for east transport and display!
